Rahima Dirkse wins Miss Nederland 2018

Rahima Dirkse defeated 11 other contestants to win the title of Miss Nederland 2018. Grand-finale of Miss Nederland 2018 took place on Monday,9th of July 2018 at AFAS Circustheater in Scheveningen. Nicky Opheij the outgoing Miss Nederland crowned Rahima as her successor. Rahima will now represent The Netherlands at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant later this year where she will try to succeed South Africa’s Demi Leigh Nel Peters as the next Miss Universe. Nina van den Broek was crowned as the first runner-up.

The Netherlands has been competing at the Miss Universe pageant since 1956 and has produced one winner Angela Visser in 1989. In 1991 Paulien Huizinga bagged the first runner-up crown and in 2014 Yasmin Verheijen was the third runner-up. Anna Schuit was fourth runner-up at Miss Universe 1965. At the Miss Universe 1992, Vivian Jansen made it to the top 6 of the pageant. Other than these placements The Netherlands has placed 8 times in the history of the pageant. Miss Nederland 2002, Kim Kötter is the national director of the pageant.

24-years-old Rahima hails from Rotterdam and is a student of biopharmaceutical sciences. Rahima was approached by one of the sponsors at a bar in Amsterdam where she works to join the pageant. Rahima’s motto in life “Fuck it“ y which she means sometimes in life you have to take risks and do exciting and challenging things. Rahima has a huge scar on her leg due to the dive she took in the Hofplein fountain last year.
