Đặng Thị Lệ Hằng is appointed to represent Vietnam in Miss Universe 2016 by Miss Universe Vietnam Organization. She succeeds Pham Thi Huong, who was a major front runner from Asia last year, as the new Miss Universe Vietnam. Previously, she was a 2nd runner-up at Miss Universe Vietnam 2015, where Pham Thi Huong was the eventual winner. Đặng Thị Lệ Hằng is also a winner of Elite Model Look Vietnam 2014

Vietnam started sending representatives to Miss Universe since 2004 and has managed to place only once, in 2008, when the edition was held in Vietnam. Đặng Thị Lệ Hằng will now try grabbing the second spot of placement for her country this year. Đặng Thị Lệ Hằng has already won Elite Model Look Vietnam in 2014 and has stood 3rd in the Miss Universe Vietnam contest last year, this speaks volume about her caliber. She stands 5’9″ which is always a positive point into the pageants. Moreover, the new organisation seems to have understood the fact of how to effectively utilise the fan following and market in Asia, we can safely assume that Vietnam could be a bright spot for them.
