Miss Vermont USA 2016- Neely Fortune
Neely Fortune was crowned as Miss Vermont USA 2016 in a glittering ceremony that took place at Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, VT on 2nd November. Neely will now represent Vermont at Miss USA 2016 pageant which will take place next year. Neely was crowned by the outgoing queen Jackie Croft-Miss Vermont USA 2015. The first runner up crown went to Karly Fereday where as Joanna Nagle was crowned as second runner up. In the same event Tammy Vujanovic was crowned as Miss Teen Vermont USA 2016. Tammy will now represent Vermont at Miss Teen USA 2016 pageant next year.
Vermont has won one Miss USA crown courtesy of Carlene King Johnson Miss USA 1955 she ended up as a semi finalist at that year’s Miss Universe pageant. In 1969 Mary Verdiani won the first runner up crown. Other than these two achievement Vermont has only placed twice at Miss USA pageant making it one of the least successful states in the history of the pageant. Sandra Bette Taft was top 11 at Miss USA 1971 and Georgia Davis Top 12 at Miss USA 1982. Vermont has won whooping five Miss Congeniality crowns Mary Verdiani at Miss USA 1969, Donna Sue Thorton in 1974, Constance Crabtree in 1975, Nancy Jeanne Wierzbicki at Miss USA 1978 and Michelle Fongemie in 2004 edition of Miss USA.

24 year old Neely hails from Burlington,Vermont. She graduated in Wildlife Biology Forestry from the University of Vermont. She wants to pursue Masters degree in Conservation Wildlife biology so that she can help protect environment and save endangered mammals so that future generations can enjoy spiritual, mental and health benefits of a healthy eco system. Neely competed in the 2014 edition of Miss Vermont USA where she was a semi finalist she tried her luck the next year where she was crowned as the first runner up. Neely enjoys all sorts of adventure sports.
