Andrea Meza of Mexico wins Miss Universe 2020
26-years-old Andrea Meza from Chihuahua City, Mexico defeated 73 other contestants from around the world to win the title of 69th Miss Universe. The 69th edition of the pageant was delayed by over a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The grand-finale took place on Sunday 16th May 2021 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Florida. The pageant was hosted by Miss Universe 2012 Olivia Culpo of the USA and television star Mario Lopez. Miss Universe 2014, Paulina Vega of Colombia along with Miss Universe 2017, Demi-Leigh Tebow of South Africa and Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst were backstage host. World famous Puerto Rican musician Luis Fonsi performed at the finale.
The outgoing Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowned Andrea as her successor at the end of the event. The first runner-up title went to Julia Gama of Brazil whereas Peru’s Janick Maceta was awarded the second runner-up title. India’s Adline Castelino and Dominican Republic’s Kimberly Jiménez were declared as third and fourth runner-up respectively. Best National Costume award went to Myanmar’s Thuzar Wint Lwin. Bolivia’s Lenka Nemer won the first ever Social impact award in which she received cash prize of 10,000 USD. Miss Dominican Republic, Kimberly Jiménez was award the carnival spirit award.
