Vanessa Ponce de león who represented Ciudad de México province defeated 31 other contestants to win the title of Miss Mexico 2018. Grand finale of Miss Mexico 2018 took place on Saturday,5th of May 2018 at  Hermosillo, Sonora. Andrea Meza, Miss Mexico 2017 and first runner-up at Miss World 2017 crowned Vanessa as her successor. Vanessa will now represent Mexico at the Miss World 2018 pageant in Sanya, China where she will try to succeed India’s Manushi Chhillar as the next Miss World.

Mexico has never won the Miss World crown but has produced 3 first runner-ups Dafne Molina Lona in 2005, Perla Beltrán Acosta in 2009 and Andrea Meza in 2017. Carolina Morán Gordillo bagged the second runner-up crown at the Miss World 2007 pageant whereas Elizabeth Aguilar González was third runner-up at Miss World 1977 pageant. Adán Sotélo is the national director of Miss Mexico Organization.

25-years-old Vanessa has a degree in International Commerce from the University of Guanajuato and also holds a diploma in human rights. Vanessa works with a school called Nenemi which gives intercultural education to children from indigenous tribes. Vanessa is a full-time model and winner of Mexico’s Next Top Model. Ironically one of the judges of the night Mariana Berumen, Miss World Mexico 2012 was first runner-up to Vanessa at Mexico’s Next Top Model.

  1. Although the Miss Mexico organization would like to make her appear younger, she’s not 25. She is 26 years old. She will be 27 as of March 7,2019. The eldest of Miss World 2018 contenders.
