Alya Nurshabrina from Jawa Barat defeated 33 other delegates from across Indonesia to win Miss Indonesia 2018. Grand finale of the pageant took place on Thursday, February 22nd at the at MNC Studios in Jakarta. Achintya Holte Nilsen, Miss Indonesia 2017 crowned Alya Nurshabrina as her successor. She will now represent Indonesia at the Miss World 2018 pageant later this year where she will try to succeed India’s Manushi Chhillar as the next Miss World. The reigning Miss World Manushi Chhillar along with Continental queens of Miss World 2017, Stephanie Del Valle, Miss World 2016 from Puerto Rico and members of the Miss World Organization attended the grand finale. The first runner-up crown went to Sumatera Barat whereas Jawa Tengah bagged the second runner-up crown.
Indonesia first competed at the Miss World pageant in the year 1982 with Andi Botenri in 1983 Titi Dwi Jayati represented Indonesia at Miss World and after a long hiatus of 22 years, Indonesia returned to the Miss World pageant in 2005. Liliana Tanoesoedibjo of MNC group is the chairperson of the Miss Indonesia organization and under her leadership, Indonesia has an unbroken streak of placement at Miss World pageant since 2011. Indonesia also hosted the Miss World 2013 pageant in Bali, Indonesia. Maria Harfanti in 2015 and Natasha Mannuela in 2016 bagged the second runner-up crown at the Miss World pageant highest placement for Indonesia at the pageant. Indonesia has bagged five all-important Beauty with the Purpose subtitles.
