Annie Evans has been chosen as Miss World New Zealand 2017.  She was crowned today in a glamorous ceremony. Meghan Kenney and Michelle Isemonger were chosen as first and second runner-ups respectively.  Annie succeeds Karla De Beer as Miss World New Zealand and will represent the country at Miss World 2017.  The pageant will be held in China later this year and the successor of Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle will be chosen from 100+ contestants at the end of the month-long pageant.

New Zealand has been performing poorly at Miss World in recent years.  The only major success of the country in past few years was Top 5 placement of Miss World New Zealand 2015 Deborah Lambie in Multimedia competition. New Zealand is yet to win the Miss World title.  The highest placement of New Zealand is 1st runner-up.  First it was achieved by Elaine Miscall in Miss World 1963.  And then it was achieved by Lauralee Martinovich in Miss World 1997.  Since 1997, New Zealand has failed to make it to the Top 5 or Top 10 at Miss World.  Will Annie Evans break the lull and achieve high placement this year at Miss World?  Let us hope so.
