Anna Merimaa of Finland is Miss Model of the World 2016

Anna Merimaa of Finland has been chosen as Miss Model of the World 2016.  She succeeds Awa Geremaya Sanoko of Ivory Coast as Miss Model of the World title-holder.  The finals were held in Shenzhen, China.  This was the 28th edition of Miss Model of the World pageant.  The pageant is based from Istanbul, Turkey.

Anna Merimaa is 19 years of age.  She is 182 cm tall.  She is the second girl from Finland to win the title.  The first was Laura Keranen, who won the pageant in the year 2001.

Generally the discussions are frequent about major pageants like Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss Supranational, etc.  However, these smaller pageants like Miss Model of the world are ignored.  We still can be glad about the existence of these smaller pageants.  For one, these can act as the launch-pad for models who can foray and succeed at bigger platforms.  One such lady was Iveta Lutovska of Czech Republic who won this title in 2007.  Later she won the national pageant of Czech Republic in 2009 and finished among the Top 10 finalists of Miss Universe 2009.  Ria Antoniou of Greece, who was one of the most talked about beauty queens in the year 2008, was 2nd runner-up in this pageant.  Ria did not find success in pageants (no placement in Miss Earth 2008), but she is a sex symbol and a known personality in her country!
