Andrea Melgarajo has been chosen as Miss Universe Paraguay 2016 in Nuestra Belleza Paraguay 2016.  She succeeds Myriam Arévalos as Miss Universe Paraguay. Andrea will now compete at Miss Universe 2016 for a chance to succeed Pia Wurtzbach as the new Miss Universe.  The Miss Universe 2016 will be most probably held in Philippines in January 2017, though an official announcement from Miss Universe Organization is still awaited.

Andrea Melgarajo is not new to pageants. She has participated in Nuestra Belleza Paraguay 2015 and won Miss Earth Paraguay 2015 title. She couldn’t place as a semifinalist in Miss Earth 2015, which was held in Austria. This 21 years old beauty is from Asuncion, Paraguay. Her height is 5 ft 11 in.  She is a medical student and is fluent in English and Spanish.

Paraguay at Miss Universe

Paraguay has placed in Miss Universe for 4 times and the highest placement of the country is 3rd runner-up.  It has been achieved twice, first by Yanina Alicia González Jorgge in Miss Universe 2004 and then by Lourdes Verónica Arévalos Elías in Miss Universe 2006.  Andrea Melgarajo’s predecessor Myriam Carolina Arévalos Villalba participated in Miss Universe 2015 but did not achieve a placement in the finals.
