Stunning Jeslyn Santos from Philippines was crowned as the winner of Miss United Continents 2016 in Guayaquil, Ecuador at Palacio de Cristal. She battled out 27 other contestants in the contest to claim the title of Miss United Continents 2016. Jeslyn Santos succeeded Nathalia Lago, from Brazil, as the new Miss United Continents winner. Jeslyn also competed in Bb Pilipinas along with Pia Wurtzbach 2 years back. She also became the first non-latina winner (from Asia) to win this title.
At the same event, Mette Riis Sorensen from Denmark was announced as the ‘Vice Queen’ and was titled first runner-up, Lopamudra Raut from India was titled as the second runner- up, Taynara Gargantini from Brazil was titled third runner- up, Cynthia Duque from Mexico was titled as the fourth runner- up and Rita Silvestre of Panama was adjudged as the fifth runner- up. Jeslyn Santos wore the stunning crown designed by Jewelry Designer, Christian Quintero. The design of the crown is base on the concept of the five continents.
Was Jeslyn Santos a deserving winner?
There was a backlash amongst pageant fans that Jeslyn Santos won mostly because she gave her answer in Spanish to impress the jury and crowd. Although, this could be one of the reasons, but we can’t completely eliminate the consideration that representatives from Philippines are generally as prepared as the girls from Venezuela. Moreover, Jeslyn Santos always had a queenly aura coming from her, so her win should not be making people surprised in the end. We feel people were not happy in the beginning because they had other girls as favourite and didn’t see Jeslyn winning the title. But she deserves every inch of it in our opinion.
