Univision will no longer telecast Miss Universe and Miss USA
Univision, which used to air the Miss Universe and Miss USA finale, has decided to end the contract with Miss Universe Organisation. The Trump Saga doesn’t seem to get over. Recently, Trump passed one few nasty comments on Mexican immigrants by calling them criminals and rapists. In our opinion, this was uncalled for, especially when you are representing an organisation which allows the delegates of across the globe to compete in your contest. Imagine the reaction of all the representatives of Mexico there onwards. Any non placement of their girls in his pageant will be speculated as Trump’s decision.
Univision, a Spanish channel, made an announcement regarding this issue today, ‘At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization,”.
It is also rumoured that Mexican delegates will no longer be allowed to compete in Miss Universe, as ordered by Donald Trump. If this is true, we can see many countries backing out from Miss Universe contest. And if Trump is intentionally doing this to gain publicity for Miss Universe contest, then we must say, it will only throw Miss Universe even more down. There was a time when Miss World and Miss Universe used to compete parallelly, but the wrong leadership has led to the decline in brand value of Miss Universe and gave a clear way to Miss World being the only dignified major pageant as on date.
Controversy is not something new to Mr. Trump. He is famous for making such attempts to be in limelight. But we really doubt that his this efforts shall earn any fruit to him. Mr. Trump replied to Univision’s act on twitter stating, “The Mexican gov doesn’t want me talking about terrible border situation & horrible trade deals. Forcing Univision to get me to stop- no way!”.
Following this heat, J Balvin also backed out from performing in Miss USA contest because of Trump’s involvement with the organization. He announced, “No, we’re not doing it – we have to make sure our people are respected; if you let people make these comments against Latinos or any group it’s like regressing, like going back, so no,” said J Balvin, who spoke via phone live to Miami-based Spanish-language radio host Enrique Santos Wednesday morning.
All this happenings is doing no good to Miss Universe, but only disaster. Time to change the leader for sure.
