Importance of Good conduct by Beauty Queens towards internet fans

With every passing year, the world is changing or rather evolving for good.  The same trend is seen in beauty pageants also.  While in 90s, the fans of the pageants had no major way of interacting with their favourite beauty queens, in the current times the social media has changed the situation.  The fans have the option of following the girls on popular social media websites.  The beauty queens are young ladies and hence like the other people of their age, they enjoy social networking.  Hence fans often add them as their friends or follow them.  They comment on their pictures and may even go ahead and message them in private chat.  While many may see this as invasion of privacy, there are some points that girls may ponder before reaching conclusions.  Here we present some points why it can be important for beauty queens to connect positively with their fans on social media.

Multi-media award: Miss World pageant is the biggest pageant in the world.  The contest started the Multimedia award in 2012 where in the contestants will have their own pages on social media where the fans can connect to them.  The girls who use the social media in most effect manner get the award.  In the year 2012 & 2013, Indian girls won the award.  The award goes to the girl who interacts most effectively and not to the girl with maximum likes. In Miss World 2014, the award went to Miss USA.  She used twitter very effectively in self-promotion.  With such award, of course it is important for a beauty queen maintain a good online personality.  Interactions on the social media cannot be taken lightly now.

People’s Choice Award: Majority of the pageants have a fan vote to determine a finalist.  Of course when it comes to international pageants, the countries with craziest fans dominate this aspect.  But when it comes to national pageants, having a good internet following can be a huge advantage for this kind of vote.  If you have been interacting well with your fans, you can expect them to support you well by voting and promotions.

Suggestions from fans: The fans of these contests often follow the pageants since years.  A lot of them know more about the pageants than a lot of girls who try for them. The fans can include fashion designers, stylists, models, etc. who have good knowledge in the matter.  They also may include ex-contestants.  It can be very helpful for aspiring contestants to take help from such experts.  One such expert is Shinata Sangha, a beauty queen with Indian roots who lives in Gibraltar.  She has helped many girls in grooming and a lot of them are really thankful to Shinata.

Pageant Organizations follow the internet: Yes, many contestants of international pageants have confirmed that officials at the pageants are actually aware about the popular delegates at the popular internet forums and groups about the pageant.  Certainly a girl who maintains a good image on the internet will get good feedback on the forums and that will be noted by pageant officials.  Gone are the days when pageants were just about the final night performance.  Most people opine that the winners are decided based on the overall conducts of the girls at the pageant from day one.  It is not just about how you perform in finals/prelims, you need to be overall a really impressive person and certainly having a good image on the internet helps.

Of course, there is no proof of this. This is just a theory in which many believe.

Promotions: If you are nice to your fans, they will promote you!  They will share your posts and pictures.  They will talk good about you on forums and groups.  You will touch lives in positive ways.  If you need their support in form of internet activity (sharing your picture), the fans will do it!

Values: “It is nice to be important, but it is important to be nice” Aishwariya Rai has stated this to be her favourite quote in a past interview.  Yes, beauty queens do become celebrities once they win their national pageants.  But they should realise that it was the love of their fans that helped them.  The fans are not some internet trolls, but often highly educated and accomplished individuals who follow the girls out of sheer interest.  Their positive attitude need not be dissed by labelling them as unwelcome strangers.  The girls are not expected to become “best friends” with every stranger who chats to them. But yes, basic courtesy and good attitude is expected and appreciated.

Thus we feel it can be highly helpful for girls to be open to fans on social media and be positive in their interactions.  Flaunt your looks & intelligence on the stage, but flaunt your good nature on internet too! 🙂
