Hildur Maria was chosen as Miss Universe Iceland 2016 on 12th September 2016 and will represent Iceland at Miss Universe 2016 that will be held in the Philippines in January 2017. Iceland last participated in Miss Universe in the year 2009 when Ingibjorg Ragnheiour was Top 15 semi-finalist.

Hildur Maria is 24 years of age and stands 5 ft 6 in tall. Her hairs are dark blone and eyes are brown in color. She is a flight attendant in Icelandair and also works as a model. She hails from Kopavogur, Iceland.  Hildur is spending a lot of time in the USA for her Miss Universe preparations.

Iceland has participated in Miss Universe since 1956 but they have placed just 5 times. Their highest placement was acheived by Anna Geirsdottir in Miss Universe 1962 where she was the 1st runner-up. Beginning in 2016, Manuela Osk Haroardottir (former Miss Iceland 2002) and pageant interview guru Jorge Esteban were awarded the franchise for Miss Universe Iceland. The national pageant was held on September 12, 2016 at the Gamla Bio in Reykjavik, Iceland. Previously the Miss Iceland (Ungfru Island) pageant would select the representative to Miss Universe. Hildur Maria is the first winner of the new franchise.
