Shirly Karvinen is Miss Universe Finland 2016

Shirly Karvinen was chosen as Miss Finland 2016 at Vanajanlinnna Castle in Hameenlinna on May 13, 2016. She will represent Finland at Miss Universe 2016-2017 pageant which will be held in the month of January 2017 in the Philippines. The finals will be held on 30th January (as per local time) in Metro Manila and will witness the gorgeous Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach passing her crown to her successor in front of her own countrymen.

Shirly Karvinen is 24 years of age. She is 5 ft 7 in tall. Her hairs are black and eyes are brown in color. She works as a model. She has spend her childhood in Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Saudi Arabia. She spent her teens in Beijing, China. She can speak English and Mandarin in addition to Finnish. She has studied business administration and worked with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki and the Embassy of Finland in Washington, D.C.

Finland has been participating in Miss Universe since it’s inception. In fact, the very first Miss Universe Armi Helena Kuusela was from Finland! The country did exceptionally well between 1965 and 1975, when they placed among the runner-ups almost every year and finally won the crown again in 1975 with Anne Pohtamo. The last placement of Finland in Miss Universe was 2 decades ago in the year 1996 when Lola Odusoga was declared as 2nd runner-up.
