Growing up in a small village in Odisha, Latanjali Maharana, a 22-year-old pursuing her Master’s in biological science, has faced challenges head-on. From overcoming educational barriers to advocating for equality, her journey has instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and a desire to empower others. This is why, she says, “providing friendly and free education is where my success stands.”
Contesting for India’s Miss TGPC Season-12 against 50 other girls from across India and beyond, Latanjali is ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and advocacy, all while showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of India.
TGPC: Latanjali, what motivated you to participate in India’s Miss TGPC?
Latanjali: Pageant communities inspired me to take a step forward and live purposefully, without worrying about judgment. IMT’s openness to girls of all body types and heights particularly motivated me to participate, as I see myself represented here. This is also a stepping stone for my future in pageantry and modeling.
TGPC: Why do you believe you are deserving of the India’s Miss TGPC title?
Latanjali: The title holder must be compassionate and embrace her true self – that’s what defines inner beauty. My growth and experiences have shaped me into a woman with inner beauty. Learning and growing are my constant companions in this ever-evolving world. Even a small change in each individual can significantly impact society. This belief motivates me to strive for a better world.
TGPC: Looking towards the future, what are your plans, both with and without the crown?
Latanjali: For me, the crown signifies responsibility towards society. Since childhood, I’ve shouldered responsibility for myself and my family, and I strive to contribute to society as much as I can. I believe nature has bestowed upon me an invisible crown of responsibility. Visible crown or not, I will continue to fulfill my responsibilities.
TGPC: Growing up, what would you say was your biggest challenge?
Latanjali: My biggest challenge was overcoming my dislike for math. It forced me to find purpose and recognition outside of academics. This experience shaped my identity, teaching me that strength and courage lie within, not in external circumstances.
TGPC: Beyond winning, what aspect of India’s Miss TGPC are you most excited about?
Latanjali: This question is particularly close to my heart. India’s Miss TGPC brings together contestants from all over India. We unite to showcase the culture, heritage, and unity of our motherland. Being a part of this unity fills me with pride. It’s like a family, and we are the children of IMT. This sense of togetherness surpasses the desire to win.
TGPC: As an aspiring winner of India’s Miss TGPC, what legacy do you aspire to leave behind?
Latanjali: As an aspiring winner, the legacy I want to leave behind is one of self-belief and perseverance. Pursue your chosen path with joy, learn from failures, and embrace every situation with a smile. Love and respect yourself, and kindness will radiate outwards.
TGPC: Could you share with us the causes or issues that you are particularly passionate about, and how do you intend to utilize this platform to create an impact?
Latanjali: From a young age, I’ve championed the idea that passion comes from within, not from external pressures. I strive to balance my research in science with my artistic expression through fashion and social work. I will utilize this platform to inspire young people to live purposefully and pursue their passions responsibly.
TGPC: Is there any message you’d like to convey to those reading this?
Latanjali: Answering these questions has been a heartwarming experience. Since childhood, I’ve realized that education empowers, and I possess artistic qualities for self-expression. So, I started exploring everything I could manage. I am grateful to those who are reading my thoughts and to the team for giving me this opportunity.
