Kristen Leyva wins Miss New Mexico USA 2018
Kristen Leyva defeated 23 other contestants to win the title of Miss New Mexico USA 2018. Grand finale of the pageant took place on Saturday 27th January 2018 at Onate Performing Arts Center Las Cruces, New Mexico. Kristen was crowned by t he outgoing Miss New Mexico USA ,Ashley Mora. Kristen will represent the state of New Mexico at the Miss USA 2018 pageant later this year where she will try to succeed Kara McCullough, Miss USA 2017 from District of Columbia. Nicole Gomez bagged the first runner-up crown where as Tracie Turner was crowned as the second runner-up. Victoria Sinclair & Jade Kelley were awarded with third and fourth runner-up crown respectively. In the same event Madison Turner was crowned as Miss New Mexico Teen USA 2018. Madison will represent the state of New Mexico at the Miss Teen USA 2018 pageant later this year.
Miss USA 1984,Mai Therese Shanley is the only Miss New Mexico USA to win the national title she was a semi-finalist at that year’s Miss Universe pageant. New Mexico has one first runner-up and one second runner-up crown Brenda Denton was first runner-up at Miss USA 1985 and Judith Baldwin was second runner-up in 1965. New Mexico has two fourth runner-up crown Bonnie Tafoya in 1968 and Marlena Garland in 1978. Brittany Toll was the last Miss New Mexico to place at the pageant she made it to top 16 of Miss USA 2011.

Kristen hails from Las Cruces, New Mexico she was raised by a single parent. Kristen has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering from the New Mexico State University and is currently pursuing Master’s in Industrial Engineering. Kristen is currently working with the United States Department of Defense as a mechanical engineer. Kristen created the #JUSTONE program where she travels around the state and encourages kids to take up engineering.
