Christie Refalo was crowned as Miss Malta 2016 on 26th November 2016.  She represented Luqa, a village located in the Southern Region of Malta.  As per reports, from now onwards Miss Malta winner will represent Malta at Miss Earth pageant.  Hence we will probably see 25 years old Christie at Miss Earth 2017 where Katherine Espin will crown her successor.

Christie Refalo is not new in the world of pageants.  She competed in Miss World Malta 2015 which was won by Katrina Pavia.  However, winning Miss Malta is special since it is the eldest pageant in Malta celebrating it’s 53rd year in 2016.  In early years, the winners of Miss Malta represented Malta in Miss World pageant.  Between 1968 and 2001, the Miss Malta winners represented Malta in Miss Universe pageant.  From 2016, Miss Malta winner will be the national ambassador during Miss Earth pageant, owned by Carousel Productions.

Malta hasn’t achieved much success in international pageants, except perhaps 2 Top 15 placements, in Miss World and Miss Intercontinental each.  Will Christie Refalo be able to change this?  Let’s hope she does.
