Miss India Diaries: Remembering Kalpana Iyer, Champ on stage; Vamp on celluloid.
We bet you must have hummed the song “Pardesi Pardesi” from the movie Raja Hindustani or “Koi yahan aha nache nache” of 80s; but a little are aware that there is a Miss India winner who played the lead role in those songs. She is Kalpana Iyer; the famous vamp of 80s and 90s, that’s what she is well known for. Some of her well known films are Satte pe Satta, Anjaam, Raja Hindustani, Hum Saath Saath Hain. She also received praises for her role of a cruel police inspector in Anjaam.

Kalpana Iyer competed in Femina Miss India contest in 1978. After being first runner-up at Miss India, she represented India at Miss World 1978, held in London. She placed in Top 15 as one of the semifinalists and overall finished at 11th place. Her professional career includes full fledged vamp characters and famous dance numbers. She also became a pop singer and had performed in many shows. Talking about her personal life, it was very painful as she quotes it, when she decided to move to Dubai, away from all the glam and glitz. She never got married or raised a family. Settled in Mumbai now, we wish her all the luck.
