Pageant Question: Q4

1) Do you think technology is overpowering a common man??

Winner: Vagisha Mishra

Answer: Anything in this world has little power to overpower man’s whims other than his own will. Technology, now a day is not limited to stipulation but obsession. People sacrifice their sleep to follow the virtual world, which indicates how technology is dominating their lives, when it has to be the other way round. When the need exchanges place with mania, it becomes perilous. I believe that should be taken care of. Man’s will has power enough to move the mountains, then what is technology? As long as we wish not to be termed as “overpowered”, nothing in this world can.

Comments by Admin:  Vagisha’s answer was very realistic, considering the present situation. It showed the darker side of the technology and yet she focuses on the fact that what a human can produce, he can also destroy it. Hence, its difficult for technology to overpower its supreme creator. Just like Human can never overpower God, no matter what.

1st Runner Up: Saloni Sharma

Answer: Technology is a boon for mankind. From reaching out to mars, being able to talk to our loved ones who are far away, having successful medical procedures that tantalized humanity many years ago, harnessing natural energy to our use, being able to travel easily from one part of the world to another, yes, these are only a few gifts of Science and technology. It is not only about having laptops and mobile phones and ipads, technology has a broader meaning. But has it overpowered common man? I would say no, all the machines being put to our good use are heaps of garbage if they get faulty, human brain invented them, only it can cure them if they get ill. Thank you

Comments by Admin:  Saloni’s answer focused more on the broader aspect of the term technology. When most of the answers focused on the fact that technology means gadgets, Saloni highlighted on the fact development is also another form of technology. A positive answer to such question is difficult to pull out. Our only concern about her answer is that it may not be realistic on a Pageant stage due to its length as the participant hardly get 30 seconds to speak.

2nd Runner Up: Iftekar Alam

Answer:  It’s really hard to predict is it technology overpowering common people but the number one benefit of information technology is that it empowers people to do what they want to do. It lets people be creative. It lets people be productive. It lets people learn things they didn’t think they could learn before, and so in a sense it is all about potential.

Comments by Admin: Ifekar’s answer was the most liked answer by other members (Yes!!! you can see 9 Likes). What we loved the most about Iftekar’s answer that it talked about the potential. Ultimately, it’s the creators tehmselves, who are going to use the technology and it’s always upto them on how they explore the potential of the given technology.

Congratulations to all the winners..!!!
