I remember this famous international forum about beauty pageants I used to visit for some years. I don’t go there anymore. There was a guy there, who was from India but still he would bash Sushmita Sen very often, saying that she was not deserving of the crown and that Miss Universe 1994 must have been Carolina Gomez of Colombia. Even Carolina, who was extremely gracious to Sushmita when the latter won Miss Universe, would not feel so strongly about this, unlike this guy, LOL. But he did raise some good points.
So then, why Sushmita won? This question is not really relevant after two decades of her winning the crown, but still I would like to express my love for her in the form of this analysis.
Sushmita, in my opinion, won because of her “fullness”. She felt “full” – full of life when she presented herself. This came across through her “presence”, through her “aura”, through her “geniune smile”, through her “happy mood”, through her “innocence”, through her “charm” & through the way she connected with people during the finals.
She epitomizes confidence, light and immense magnificence. I guess that is what forms the “essence of Sushmita Sen” – the reason why she rocks. It is the reason why she is loved by millions in spite of not being among the most successful bollywood stars. This is why she won Miss Universe quite comfortably and was well received by most people who could feel her high self-esteem.
There are and can be no rounds to judge all these qualities. Those “shallow” minds, which judge people just by looks to the extent of calling names to those who win honestly, will not be able to quantify these qualities. And that is so because these qualities are to be “FELT” and not scored. Sushmita Sen touches you as a person.
I remember the way that guy used to find all opportunities in the world to bash poor Sushmita. I never responded to him. But he did help me understand my/our love for this wonderful lady. Thank you dumb dude! 😀
Today, when I read an article about Sushmita bringing a rare honor to Bollywood, I thought to pen this down. Love you Sushmita Sen… 🙂
