Review: Maleficent

Disney has managed to come up with something very unique that attempts to changing the old perception of audiences. Maleficent was a movie which contradicts the storyline of old mythological tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’ where Villian becomes the actual hero of the Story and may be this is what we never knew about the old story.

Plot:

Young Maleficent falls in love with a human boy called Stefan. However, Stefan is serving a king who always wanted to conquer the kingdom of Moors, which Maleficent is guard of. On his death-bed, King orders whosoever kill Maleficent, shall get the throne. Although Stefan doesn’t succeed to kill Maleficent, he stole her wings without which Maleficent can’t fly and do much of movement as before. Angry by Stefan’s betrayal, she goes to the celebration of his daughter Aurora and curses her of sleeping forever with a prick of spindle needle on her 16th Birthday which can only be broken by true love’s kiss. The king orders 3 fairies to take away Aurora deepp down into the woods and keep her safe from Maleficent till she turns 16th. However, neglectful fairies fail to do so and Maleficent starts taking care of Aurora which also release all her hate toward Aurora. Slowly, she starts taking care of her and develops emotional bonding with Aurora. Aurora assumes her to be Fairy god mother and starts spending time with Maleficent. Maleficent tries to revoke the curse of her but is unable to do so. Meanwhile, Aurora meets prince Philips, who may be the only option to revoke the curse should he kiss Aurora with true love. Aurora decides to leave for Maleficent kingdom on her 16th Birthday, this is when she learns all the truth about the curse and Maleficent. She leaves for her father’s kingdom then, where her father orders to lock her till they hunt down Maleficent. Unfortunately, Aurora happens to prick the needle and fall infinite sleep. Meanwhile, Maleficent brings the prince Philips to the kingdom so that he can kiss Aurora and wake her up from the sleep. However, the kiss doesn’t workout as it was not a true love. Maleficent burst out of emotions realising what she had done and kisses Aurora. Aurora awakens due to the kiss of true love of Maleficent. They try to escape the castle but Stefan catches Maleficent for kill her. Aurora finds the stolen wings of Maleficent and releases them which again gets restored on Maleficent’s body. She overpowers the battle and kill Stefan. The movie ends with Aurora being crowned as the new queen of Moors.

Critics: 

Although the movie has nothing much to offer in terms of new story, the twist and a new perception of an old story is done is a good way. the animation and graphics of fantasy world is at the par with any other good fantasy movie. The class put but Angelina Jolie into the character of Maleficent, we would like to say ‘Maleficent is Magnificent’. This lady has got it all and redefines the image of evil Maleficent into fairy Maleficent. The portrayal of Aurora by Elle fanning is also done beautifully by justifying the innocent genuine girl away from all bad feelings.

3/5. You may go if you like to see fantasy movies and super power battles. All the Jolie’s fan, you MUST go otherwise you may miss out another great effort of Jolie.
