Camera to Crown to Coach: Meet Piya Pawani

PIYA PAWANI, Model, Actor & Social Media Influencer, was crowned Mrs. India – Empress of the Nation, 2^nd Runner up, 2018. Her journey with Diva Pageants under the guidance and mentorship of Mrs. Anjana Mascarenhas and Mr. Karl Mascarenhas,  also Managing directors and founders of Diva Pageants, has truly been inspirational to many aspiring women.

Diva Pageants, was founded primarily for self-grooming and enhancing one’s confidence and image. However, over the years, they have truly changed the lives of married women in pageantry world. Titled “Mrs” never sounded more powerful and validating.

One such contestant / Finalist, who flew from Oman, to represent in Pune (India) For Mrs. India Title shares her experience during and post her Pageant journey. Whilst we are in 20^th century and new era, it’s still an brow-raising talk when it comes to middle and upper-middle class married women and their partake in Modeling, Beauty and Pageant world. Fighting tons of criticism, and judgements, Piya Pawani, was lucky to have been chosen by Diva Pageant’s Managing director, and represented Oman in Mrs. India – Empress of the Nation season 1 (2018).

“I was excited but super terrified. I didn’t know if I would survive the training sessions with so many mentors, different finalists with varied experience in this field and a new city. But thanks to my mentors, the 7 days session was truly an out of the body experience.” she says.

She adds “Mentors are professional, warm and caring, inspiring and motivating, truly help you to find your hidden talents, strength and push you to explore oneself. From confidence, communication to painting my own career, nothing would have been possible without their guidance and support”.

Pandemic has given a new perspective and Social Media was the biggest platform used to connect and network. It helped many to wisely promote their talent, skills and businesses.

Diva pageants, was one of the first to provide online sessions through Facebook and Instagram in June 2020. They connected previous winners, mentors, instructors and grooming coach from all over the world with aspiring men and women.

Been a face of so many well- known brands, worked in short films and TVCs, Mrs. Anjana Mascarenhas, motivated her to host online sessions related to posing for portfolios and themed photoshoots. A session that not only changes her career but also helped many women to focus on shooting for Print Media.

“I always wanted a platform that would validate me through titles and crown, so I can help and educate others who want to explore in this field. My sincere gratitude to my mentors for identifying my abilities and pushing me towards working on it. It is very rare that you see mentors reaching out to winners and when they tell you that you should do it and you can, you know it’s more than just business and they truly mean well”.

From being a model, to winner of Mrs. India – 2^nd runner up, to Sub Jury for Mrs. India Season 2, Coaching finalists for Mrs. West India and Mrs. Maharastra, to Mrs. India – Brand Ambassador for Oman. The journey has just begun.
