Sophia Sergio has been chosen as Miss Universe Italy 2016 in a grand event held in Rome on 18th December 2016.  She succeeds Giada Pezzaioli as Miss Universe Italy title-holder.  She will represent Italy at Miss Universe 2016 pageant, which will be held in the Philippines in January 2017.  The finals will be held on 30th January 2016 in Metro Manila where around 86 stunners will compete to win the crown currently held by Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines.

Sophia Sergio is 24 years of age and stands 6 feet tall.  She hails from Naples and represented Campania region in Miss Universe Italy.  She is a student of marketing and management at the University of Naples.  She was runner-up in Miss Universe Italy 2011 and finalist in Miss Italy 2011.

Italy is known for the beautiful women but till now no Italian beauty queen has won Miss Universe title.  Daniela Bianchi and Roberta Capua came close in years 1959 and 1986 by finishing second.  In total, Italy has placed for 7 times.  The last placement was achieved by Valentina Bonariva in Miss Universe 2014.  She was Top 15 finalist.  Will Sophia Sergio achieve 8th placement this year?
