Shirley Atehortua Rios is chosen as Miss Mundo Colombia (Miss World Colombia) 2016 on 19th June 2016.  She will represent Colombia at Miss World 2016.  The first runner-up was Stephanie Fernandéz Peñaranda.  She will represent Colombia at Top Model of the World 2016.  The second runner-up was Yenny Katherine Carrillo.  She will represent Colombia at Miss Globe 2016.

Shirley Atehortua will be the first Miss World from Colombia if she wins.  Until now, Colombia has produced two first runner-ups.  The first among those was Miss Colombia 1996 Carolina Arango Corrales.  She finished second to Miss Greece Irene Skliva who won the Miss World title in India.  The second was Miss World Colombia 2002 Natalia Peralta Castro.  She finished second to Azra Akin of Turkey who won the Miss World title in England.  Miss World Colombia 2015 was María Alejandra López Pérez.  She failed to place at Miss World 2015.

Shirley Atehortua’s chances at Miss World

At first impression, Shirley Atehortua doesn’t come across as a particularly strong contestant for Miss World title.  While Colombia is emerging as a powerhouse at Miss Universe with consistently spectacular representatives, they aren’t really a strong sash at Miss World pageant.  Shirley will have to work hard if she wishes to make a mark in the pageant.  For now, we won’t say she will place but our opinions may evolve as we get more information.
