Roshanara Ebrahim crowned Miss World Kenya 2016
The stunning 22-years-old Roshanara Ebrahim was crowned Miss World Kenya 2016 at the end of the national finale. She represented the province of Nairobi County in the contest. The finale was held at Pata Beach Club in Malindi, Kilifi County. Roshanara Ebrahim was crowned by the out going queen, Charity Mwangi, Miss World Kenya 2015. She battled out 47 other strong crown contenders to claim the title of Miss World Kenya 2016. She will now competed at Miss World 2016 where she will try grabbing the crown from the reigning Miss World, Mireia Lalaguna Royo, from Spain.
At the same event, Kevin Owiti from Siaya County was titled as Mister World Kenya 2016 while Kiambu’s Everlyne Thungu was crowned as first runner-up and Everlyne Adongo was declared as second runner-up. All the contestants competed in competitions like African attire, evening gowns and official wear. Roshanara Ebrahim is presently is a fourth-year law student at the University of Nairobi. She felt that this win was a pleasant surprise for her as she didn’t expect this. In an interview, she said, “I will use the position to raise the profile of my county in various spheres. I am happy the judges saw potential in me and I am going to reciprocate by improving the economy of our country.”
The last notable placement of Kenya was in Miss World 2014 where Idah Nguma was one of the Top 11. She was also one of the 5 winners in Beauty with a Purpose fast track event and stood among the Top 5 of Beach Beauty Segment. Kenya made a comeback to the pageant in 2005 and in the span of ten years, have entered into semi-finals and quarter finals for about three times, in 2010, 2012 and 2014 as Top 25, Top 15 and Top 11 finalists respectively.
