Having followed pageants since almost a decade now, many girls have won a spot in my heart although they could not win a crown in the pageant that they participated in. No one can pinpoint few restrained set of qualities that can attract you to a person. Sometimes it is the confidence, sometimes it is the beauty. Sometimes it is the charm, sometimes it is the humility.

One such beauty that sort of lingers in my mind from almost 10 years now is Ramona Amiri of Canada. This Iranian-Canadian beauty represented her country at Miss World 2005 pageant in Sanya, China. Her persian features made her a standout. With her stunningly attractive body, she cracked the Top 5 of the Beach Beauty contest which was eventually won by Miss Russia. She also cracked the Top 5 of the Talent contest in which she wooed the world with her dance moves.

That year the girls were divided into continental groups and two girls were selected from each group based on votes from fans around the world. The 3 winners of the fast-track contests (Talent, Beach Beauty, Beauty with a purpose) joined the 2 girls from each region and thus the Top 15 was decided. All the girls faced a short interview when they were announced as semi-finalists. Then the winners of the continents were declared.

Ramona Amiri was a favorite for the Miss World title. Other favorites were Misses from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Italy, Iceland, Switzerland & Philippines. Carlene Aguilar of Philippines was the girl that created maximum buzz. The famous beauty Ingrid Rivera represented Puerto Rico in the pageant. At that time, she was very young and looked downright gorgeous.

The battle for Americas was very tight. As expected, Misses Canada & Mexico were the two chosen beauties. Ramona had an edge over Miss Mexico because she had cracked teh Top 5 of two fast-track events. Miss Mexico Dafne Molina had finished third in the Beach Beauty event. However, the judges chose Miss Mexico as the winner – Miss World Americas, perhaps due to her calm & matured personality. She later was also declared as the 1st Runner-up of the Miss World pageant. The overall winner was Unnur Birna of Iceland.

The news of Ramona trying for the Miss Canada Universe 2007 was very sweet to my ears. She was considered a favorite but she could only finish as the first runner-up. The winner was Inga Skaya of Ontario, who could not place in the Miss Universe pageant that year. I am pretty sure Ramona would have placed high in the Miss Universe pageant if she was given the opportunity.

Misses Mexico & Canada battled it out for Miss World Americas title in the finals. Mexico later finished as the 1st Runner-up to Miss World Unnur from Iceland.

It is rare to see such a gorgeous mixed-race beauty with Arab roots in international pageants. Ramona may not have won any international title, but her exotic gorgeousness will always stay in numerous hearts.
