Atong Demach, Miss World South Sudan 2012

The lady turns 28 today, 16th June. Not many known but Atong Demach was a contestant at Miss Earth 2010. It was the debut year of South Sudan in international pageantry. Few pageant gurus did note this confident lady in the bunch of beauties from different corners of the world. Unfortunately, Miss Earth failed to recognise her potential and she was not called among the Top 16 semi-finalists. This failure did not dampen the spirits of our Atong. She won Miss World South Sudan 2011 title. Atong then went to China and participate in Miss World 2012. The beauties from China and Wales were the front-runners. However, Atong gradually begun to win attention. She made it to the Top 20 of Beach Beauty contestant. She won the Top Model title and thus became the first black lady to win it. In the finals, it was revealed that she scored the highest points in interview round. Her aura and presence on the stage were undeniable. It was just not possible to keep her out of the Top 7. Along with Wales, Jamaica, India, China, Australia and Brazil, Miss South Sudan Atong Demach answered the final questions. She looked stunning in her yellow gown but when she spoke, she won everyone’s heart for entirely different reasons. The confidence that she demonstrated was impeccable. Her body language and communication was extra-ordinarily impressive. Hands down, she was the best in the interview round. However, the results of the pageant are based on overall impression. It is said that Atong was the 3rd runner-up. We sincerely feel she deserved a Top 3 placement. She won the Miss World Africa title.

Even after Miss World, Atong continued her success streak. She was named by the government as Ambassador for culture. She also owns the Demach productions, which organises ‘Beauties of South Sudan’ pageant. In 2013, she was named as brand ambassador for [ZTE] a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company, and in 2015 she was appointed as International Public Relations Advisor for Japan Government agency [JICA].
